New Gravel Drive

With all the recent large truck and equipment up and down our lane we decided to tidy things up and lay down a fresh layer of gravel. This base rock will hold up to the rigors of construction activity and then we will finish it off with a finer gravel for the top coat.  Who knows, this gravel may have had a previous life in another form.

First, the dump truck operator determines the settings on his tailgate to disperse the rock as he drives down the lane. Then he hops aboard the tractor to finish smoothing and wheel rolling for compaction.

What a beautiful job, Nice Work Rosenbaums!

Day Four

Before working on the concrete pile the  propane tank must be moved out of harms way. The tank will be reused for the new house.
First the large pieces of concrete footing are gathered up and placed into a pile.
Finally the smaller pieces of concrete are all 'raked' together into the pile using the excavators bucket.  The truck awaits the load up.  The concrete will be taken to a facility that grinds it up and turns it into small gravel like pieces to use for base rock below slabs or even in some concrete mixes
Very little will end up in the land fill.

Day Three

The truck is loaded and destined for the non-profit, Around Again, in Sequim, WA for resale and re-purposing.

here is what is left of the house....looks like a pile of trash?  Not yet.. there is still plenty to salvage!

the lumber is taken to the wood recyclers for making into compost...may show up in your garden soil someday!

metals go to metal recycling to be melted and made into new products... tomorrow the concrete...

The Old House...

This old house is worn out after nearly 80 years of service... the roof has a few leaks and the floors are sagging what to do?  The property is in a nice location with a pleasant Eagle Harbor view.  We would like to clear the land and build a new home on the site.

Is the old house a tear-down destined for the landfill?   No... There's a better way... Reduce-Reuse-Recycle!  Reduce the waste destined for the landfill, Reuse the products that have a second life, Recycle the rest!

There are lots of good building materials here... solid pine kitchen cabinets, wood flooring, cedar paneling, light fixtures, appliances, beams and boards, outdoor pavers and more, that can all be reused or re-purposed!

Call in the De-Constructors!

We've assembled a team of experts to accomplish our goal.  Ron Nance with Resolve Environmental Engineering of Indianola will perform the necessary testing to ensure that no toxic materials enter the waste stream. David Bennink with Re-Use Consulting of Bellingham will provide his knowledge and expertise advising and assisting with the dis-assembly. Brett and Erik with Brett Marlo Design + Build from Fox Island will perform the systematic dis-assembly. Lee Rosenbaum and his crew of Bainbridge Island Excavating will provide the big equipment and do the final take down along with transport of products destined for recycling. Gavin with the Around Again Store, a non-profit in Sequim, will provide the transport trailer and receive the reusable products into his inventory for cleanup, resale and reuse.

Money saved on landfill fees, materials reused, and jobs created!!
